Purpose

· Responsible to manage the erection, testing, commissioning, maintenance and troubleshooting of EHV, HV, MV and LV equipment in Grid Stations falling under one of the five sections of GSM Department. One section comprises of 12 to 13 Grid Stations having voltage level 220KV and 132KV.

· To plan, execute and monitor site activities pertaining to above mentioned requirements and to give technical assistanceto 5 no. Assistant Managers in order to complete the tasks within stipulated timelines.

· To have a proactive check over the availability of store inventory, consumables and testing equipment and to ensure enough quantity remains available in TN stores in order to avoid any unforeseen delay and difficulty in augmentation and maintenance works.

· To have enough Engineering approach and technical background of Grid Station equipment that it can quickly decipher the smart methodologies to resolve the intricate and troublesome faults, to prevent or minimize their recurrence and to implement the correct electrical schemes for smooth operation of power equipment.

· To manage multiple installation and maintenance activities through a team of 5 Assistant Managers, 8 Assistant Engineers and 50 NMS staff simultaneously and to smartly prioritize the activities as per their importance.

· To inspect grid stations by himself in order to identify the fault probabilities and system bottlenecks and to take appropriate action for their mitigation.

· To communicate and coordinate with LDC and Operation departments for shutdown planning, maintenance team deployments and during breakdown situations.

· To ensure safety of personnel by providing them required PPES, SPES and SOPS and to penalize the culprits involved in safety violation. It coordinates with Supply Chain and Finance departments from creation of MR till final inspection and issuance of newly procured equipment/inventory.

· To identify the requirement, justifying the requirement, technical evaluation of bids, case follow-up and transfer of equipment/inventory in TN store.

· To assist Project Department (PID & TP1000) in the ongoing projects of various extension and new grid stations by reviewing the design submittals and inspection of testing and commissioning works.

· To hold initial approving authority for NMS staff overtime, leave request, manual entry request of positions including DM and below as well as for DTNs, CNs and Gate-passes.

Education

BE (Electrical)

Knowledge

· Sound knowledge of EHV, HV and MV equipment operation and control schemes.

· Sound knowledge of preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance of EHV, HV and MV equipment.

· Ability to analyze test results of Grid equipment and to propose remedial measures to enhance equipment life and to mitigate fault occurrence.

· Competence in leading execution and maintenance teams in pressure situations and to resolve technical and administrative conflicts.

· Sound grip over HSEQ policies of working in Grid Stations.

Area of Responsibilities

1. Procurement and Inventory Management. 20%

· To identify the requirement of new equipment and inventory by analyzing the stock position and coordination with other sections of GSM. 

· To gather technical specifications, modify technical specifications in accordance with the actual requirement, manage material code creation (if required) and generate MR of required equipment, inventory or service. 

· To follow the procurement case with Supply chain regarding creation of PR.

· To conduct technical scrutiny of offered bids and proposals as per KE’s specifications in order to choose the most technically viable offer and to submit technical evaluation report to Procurement department for subsequent processing of P.O.

· To inspect the received goods, equipment and inventory at Central Stores.

· To process DTN and arrange logistics to receive newly procured material.

2. Execution of Annual Preventive Maintenance 20%

· To plan the schedule of APM shutdowns with LDC according to the forecasted load on Power Transformers so make sure that shutdown takes place with minimum power outage to customers.

· To ensure availability of PPE's, SPE’s and SOP's and material required to effectively conduct APM shutdowns.

· To ensure completion of all testing activities during APM within stipulated timeline following the standard testing procedures.

· To have close checks on the quality of maintenance with strict adherence to the maintenance SOPs and safety procedures.

· To minimize the bottlenecks and discrepancies that were identified or communicated by LDC by harnessing maximum efficiency and potential of GSM team.

· To make sure that all the desired activities get completed within stipulated time.

· To make sure that all the APM activities and test results are recorded in maintenance protocols and preventive maintenance work orders get uploaded on SAP.

3. Replacement of Obsolete & Faulty gadgets under Corrective Maintenance 20%

· To inspect the EHV, HV and MV and LV equipment at grid stations in order to identify replacement requirement due to recurring/uncontrollable faults and over-ageing.

· To communicate the action plan of replacement to DGM in order to seek valuable technical assistance/guidance.

· To plan shutdowns with LDC (if required) considering all contingencies and safety requirements.

· To lead the execution work by himself or delegate the charge to subordinate Engineer who is capable enough to perform the task along with close monitoring, supervision and follow-up of the erection, testing, commissioning and refurbishment activities.

· To ensure the installation, testing and commissioning take place in accordance with internationally accepted standards, manufacturer’s recommendations and without any violation of safety SOP.

· To ensure development of commissioning report of equipment and submission to DGM for approval.

· To ensure that corrective maintenance activity gets uploaded on SAP PM through notification/work order.

4 Tripping at Grid Transmission Network / Analysis of Fault 15%

· To remain vigilant round the clock in order to tackle exigency situation at grid stations due to unforeseen tripping, respond to LDC’s phone calls, deploy maintenance staff for earliest resolution of breakdown and get mobilized to grid stations in case of faults of severe nature to assist maintenance team.

· To analyze the root cause of tripping and to communicate the findings to higher-ups.

· To manage maintenance staff in an efficient manner during pressure situation in order to restore the affected equipment in minimum possible time following all the safety rules and regulations.

· To take charge of the internal communication with LDC, operation, GSP and other associated departments to take the burden out from subordinate engineers and staff in order to get their maximum output.

· To ensure that breakdown maintenance activity gets uploaded on SAP PM through notification/work order.

5. Interdepartmental co-ordination for smooth business run 15%

· To coordinate with GSP, LDC, TMOH, TMUG, SCADA, TELECOM, PID, Smart grid, Operation, UGM and SSM departments during shutdown planning, augmentation and maintenance activities at Grid stations.

· To coordinate with supply chain departments for procurement and material inspection, FAT and receiving.

· To coordinate with IT department for hardware, software, share point, portal and smart phone issues.

· To coordinate with BF & Treasury for justification of inventory consumption and cash advances.

· To coordinate with Fleet Management for hired vehicles and special vehicles for logistics of maintenance teams.

· To coordinate with GSM HSE and Corporate HSEQ departments for Safety related matters.

6 People Management 10%

· Job oriented training of sub-ordinates and newly inducted Trainee Engineers, Apprentice Engineers & Apprentice Fitters.

· Build high performance team by conducting in-house trainings to enhance their capabilities.

· Target goal settings and conduct continuous dialogue for better progress.

· Develop proactive approach and competitive ideas to support written feedback from AMs/Engineers/Staff for improvement of Departmental business run complying with KE values.

· Adopt and ensure safety procedures for each employee as well as equipment down the line.

· Conduct monthly employee engagement sessions, weekly awareness sessions / meetings and ensure daily toolbox talks for sites, in order to ensure ZERO minor/major accidents.

· Ensure proper up keeping of grid log books, grid maintenance books, grid drawings/schematics, guidebooks, instruction manuals & support documents.
