Purpose
This position manages and supervises the overall provision of protection schemes, earthing and sectionalized system for smooth and safe operation of network ensuring minimal consumer downtime ultimately leading towards improved SAIFI/SAIDI/CAIDI. These responsibilities are carried out WITH the objective to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the customers, enhance sales in terms of generation of units billed, contribute in value addition through effective resource utilization, ensure consumer satisfaction, increase the site operational effectiveness and compliance with HSEQ standards WITHIN the limits of organizational policies and SOPs, departmental objectives, environmental policies, HSEQ standards, business code of conduct and directions/guidelines from supervisor.
Education
B.E (Electrical)
Knowledge
- Knowledge of transformers, switchgears, ring main units (RMU), current transformers(CT), potential transformers (PT) & protection relays along with operational procedures
- Understanding of various protection schemes of switchgears and ring main units, installation techniques & settings on Relays and Earth fault Indicators(EFI)
- knowledge of testing and troubleshooting of switchgears and relays
- Knowledge of earthing schemes
- Thorough knowledge of Health and Safety (HSE) guidelines
Experience
2-3 years’ experience in relevant industry
Competencies
Area of Responsibilities
1- Planning & Execution (70%)
- Undertakes study of ongoing outages on 11 KV network nodes (grid, incomings and branch loops) and suggests installation of protection relays at appropriate level to achieve reduced interruptions and stoppage of fault traveling towards grid level with consequent improvement in standard indicators set by regulator i.e. SAIFI/SAIDI/CAIDI
- Determines location on network nodes for the installation of safety devices (Earth Fault Indicators (EFI), Knife Switch (KS) and Load Break Switch (LBS); considering network hierarchy and its expansion in coordination with Manager-Operations
- Makes sure appropriate installation of new switchgears and RMUs with relevant protection schemes at the feeders’ incoming and liaises with Grid System Protection(GSP) team for relay coordination to minimize the tripping at grid
- Oversees replacement of faulty Knife switches (KS) and Load break switches (LBS)
- Carries out field surveys to diagnose unwanted relay tripping and its rectification as per system requirement
- Conducts survey and ensures that earthing is intact by desired value of resistivity on locations where equipment with protective relays is installed
- Vouches for earthing of LT/HT network with relevant scheme specifically on all feeders under APM and plans similar exercise on other feeders
2- Record Keeping & Reporting (30%)
- Keeps track of feeder wise protection and earthing record on regular basis
- Prepares/circulates all periodic reporting of protection and earthing activities with relevant stakeholders
- Engages key stakeholders within and outside department for smooth protection of projects
