Purpose
The purpose of this designation is to ensure smooth operations of combined cycle power plant and its auxiliaries as per OEM guidelines and operational best practices. Hence to monitor GT, ST, HRSG and all the other auxiliaries for safe operation.
Supervision of subordinates and helpers effectively, while also liaise successfully with other sections related to Operational issues.
To monitor the plant operations vigilantly and maintain the records and report any abnormality observed in the parameters during regular operations, or during startup/shutdown. Hence ensuring that plant is operated with Plant Availability, Reliability and Efficiency at an optimum level in line with objectives, guidelines and procedures of the company.
To perform duty of shift incharge DGM in his absence as instructed by operation dept head.
Education
B.E or B. Tech / DAE in Mechanical, Electrical or Electronics Engineering.
Knowledge
Power Plant Operations and Maintenance knowledge
Commercial awareness
System Network understanding.
HSE (Health, Safety and Environment)
Proficiency with Computer knowledge such as Microsoft Office, Outlook, and SAP (General)
Experience
5 years of related work experience.

Area of Responsibilities
Operations 30%
- Making sure the availability of plant, ready to start and immediate response to system’s requirement.
- To monitor smooth, safe and efficient operation during startup, normal operation and shutdown of the plant as per OEM guidelines, startup curve and SOP.
- To Operate Gas Turbine, Steam Turbine and HRSG as per guideline, ensuring smooth operation and minimum deviation from given set points.
- To operate auxiliaries of plant such as WTP, WWTP, H2 Plant, N2 Plant, Instrument air compressors, Black start generators and Natural Gas compressors. Monitoring the parameters of the mentioned auxiliaries and reporting of any abnormality.
- To carry out regular inspection of plant and equipment. Ensuring that the plant is operated in most efficient practice. Reporting the status of plant to next colleague during handing over shift for continuity.
- To confirm and carry out safe isolation and normalization of plant equipment.
- Any deviation or defects of plant parameters to be recorded by raising defect notification in SAP.
- To prepare and assist in generation of routine operational reports and file, such as Plant Electrical Metering, Plant hourly generation, Plant availability and Shift report.
- Reporting immediately every deviation of plant operation to shift incharge DGM.
Plant Trouble shooting, improvement and problem analysis 30%
- Assisting in defects troubleshooting as and when necessary.
- To handle emergency shutdown or machine tripping. To ensure that no equipment is damaged in any tripping scenario.
- To properly handle Blackout scenario with my subordinates and to enable the plant equipment to be ready for startup as soon as possible.
- To prepare and assist in the generation of Incidents report (EIR and RIR).
- Assisting DGM Shift on plant problem analysis. To determine the correct parameters that need to be investigated. To obtain their trend, alarm history, signal diagram and operational logics, and generating problem analysis report highlighting the findings and suggesting corrective strategy.
- Propose plant improvement where necessary. To raise Modification of change where applicable for system improvement after thorough discussion with DGM shift.
- To do efficiency monitoring for improvement. Plant performance report to be generated at the end of every shift.
- To monitor Plant trending for improvement.
Routine changeover and tests 10%
- Preventive maintenance schedule to be obtained through SAP. Schedule to be discussed with DGM Shift, and then informed to subordinates.
- To ensure smooth changeover of plant or equipment according to schedule. The operations of the system must be monitored closely specially during the initial operations. Standard operating procedures must be observed. Defects or deviations noticed during test must be submitted to the maintenance section through SAP as soon as possible.
- Ensure the readiness of plant or equipment by performing standard test procedures. Defects or deviations noticed during test must be submitted to maintenance section through SAP as soon as possible. Record of each test must be submitted to Shift DGM.
- Closure of PM schedule in SAP, and any persisting deviations to be informed to next shift.
Area of Responsibility Continued
Plant and personal safety 20%
- Have to clear the PTW authorization test and interview.
- Have to clear the HV/MV/LV switching authorization test and interview.
- Ensure full implementation of PTW isolation, normalization, etc. and assist DGM SAP.
- Report dangerous occurrence. Raise Near miss where applicable to prevent any further occurrence of incidents.
- To carry out walkthrough safety audits of areas, highlighting issues to relevant departments.
- Have to clear areas wise skill certification.
- Ensure usage of PPE for all personnel.
- Ensure passive and Active fire protection & detective systems in place.
- To implement safety program as per EHS (environment, health, & safety) committee requirement.
- To confirm proper isolation from subordinate made for other section prior to execute plant maintenance, inspection or job request work.
- To confirm proper termination of electrical supply and valve isolation prior to executes job request.
- To check and monitor hazardous gases content of high risk area, before allowing any work to continue.
- To participate in toolbox meeting.
- Advising the superior, methods for the improvement of the working of the plant and working conditions and maintain good housekeeping at Plant.
- Supervise and implement SAP in absence of DGM SAP or off duty hours.
Documentation handling including drawings and manuals. 5%
- To confirm and carry out safekeeping of documents including drawings and manuals.
- To assist shift DGM in documents updating as changes are made.
Training 5%
- To attend training for self-wellbeing, discipline, knowledge, skill, performance and competency.
- To train and develop other employees in operation knowledge and skills.
- To regularly attend any HSEQ trainings held for gathering knowledge and skills. To be well prepared for any emergency situation.
