Purpose

This position is responsible to provide technical support through network simulations studies to evaluate technical losses, network health, system reliability, efficiency and flexibility ultimately contributing to the company’s objective of providing reliable power to consumers.

This position is also responsible for capacity planning and design proposals for network grids in coordination with GM Capacity Planning. This includes preparation of proposals related to network optimization & design expansion using simulation software, infrastructure improvement plans, fault restriction, power system studies and n-1 regime implementation with technology handshake to improve system’s reliability and power quality. It is also responsible for the preparation of network and grid expansion plans for assigned grids including material planning for all mentioned projects and maintaining logs of all such modifications in the network.

Education

BE / ME / MS (Electrical Engineering)

Knowledge

Area of Responsibilities

Network Reliability & Efficiency Improvement (30%)

Support in assessment of power quality issues identified by the Operations team or end consumer to improve the reliability of distribution network.

Coordination with Transmission & Operations team to sustain and improve the protection performance at feeder and loop levels based on simulation studies of protection coordination.

Conduct PV impact analysis and evaluate its implication on KE grid. Identification of technical or operational issues that KE is experiencing because of solar injection and suggest proactive strategy and planning to counter any future network inconsistencies affecting network health.

Technical loss analysis to evaluate category wise losses on distribution network and identify mitigation actions accordingly.

Short-circuit analysis to establish baseline for the Network Engineering team for the identification of reliable & efficient equipment for power distribution network.

Harmonic analysis to safeguard the distribution network from the increasing non-linear load in the system.

Support the SCADA team in the automation projects to improve the power network reliability (SAIFI/SAIDI).

Involvement in the cross-functional projects targeting to improve the over reliability and efficiency of the distribution network.

Discussion with the subject experts / consultants / academia to identify the state-of-the-art solutions to improve the all health of the distribution network.

Initiate digitization & automation projects to reduce laborious tasks and development of dashboards for better visibility of ongoing projects of Capacity Planning Team.  -

Material Planning (15%)

Preparation of investment plan for the yearly distribution projects related to Capacity Planning such as preventive/corrective maintenance, load balancing exercises, reduction of overloading and based on finalized network design.

Review of consolidated BOM requirements prepared by the Capacity Planning team.

Support in the development of phase wise investment plan for distribution projects (Short/Medium/Long Term). -

People Management (15%)

 Manage assigned team activities, load capacity and to ensure the technical / service level quality of team’s output.

Ensure right person for the right job and work on knowledge sharing and skills development through identification of training needs to retain desired competency.

Support department head in identification of continuous improvement actions for the optimization of team’s performance. -

Network Assessment for Capacity & Demand Management  (20%)

Mapping of existing network using the simulation tools and in coordination with GIS/AMI team for the purpose of capacity planning and load demand management.

Review the design and performance of existing network based on Network Score Card / KPIs and in coordination with the Demand Management & Analytics team to improve the system performance and to ensure the power quality.

Assessment of distribution schemes load as per approved policies for the identification and categorization of schemes based upon type of capacity optimization (Balancing / Feeder / Link / G&T enhancement).

Get capacity planning requirements from Demand Management for new demand, no mains / village electrification, organic growth, and overloading scenarios.

Review of design and capacity proposals for network grids. -

 

Network Grid Optimization & Expansion  (20%)

Based on load growth forecast share requirements of network expansion to Demand Management, finalize scheme design in coordination with relevant clusters and finalize Grid / PTs locations with G&T along with implementation of n-1 regime.

Identify and consolidate network optimization opportunities through simulation-based analysis of network grids. These include but are not limited to load optimization through feeders / links, VCBs, RMUs, LBS, distribution transformers etc.

Review design and capacity proposals of network grids developed by the team for the purpose of network optimization and expansion.

Improve the system availability through load balancing, reduction of overloading and network augmentation. -
