Purpose:

The Associate Engineer (I&C) is responsible for ensuring the reliable operation, maintenance, and serviceability of all instrumentation and control systems, including fire and gas detection/suppression equipment, across the plant. This role supports both routine and outage-based maintenance activities, coordinates with operations and other maintenance sections for seamless plant functionality, and manages contractor teams during project execution.The incumbent ensures timely fault rectification, preventive maintenance, and compliance with safety and operational standards, including K-Electric’s HSE protocols. They maintain accurate records of maintenance history, staff attendance, and workshop inventory, while also contributing to procedural development, training of new personnel, and continuous improvement initiatives. The Assistant Engineer plays a key role in upholding workplace discipline, safety, and operational excellence through proactive planning, execution, and collaboration.

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and service ability of all instrumentation, F&G detection / suppression and similar equipment.
  • Execution of regular checking of instrumentation for correct function and settings.
  • Execution of routine and outage maintenance with the help of AM / DM (Instrument & Control).
  • To arrange and plan scheduled maintenance out-ages with the assistance of AE (I&C) and outage staff.
  • To manage contractor staff during outages and for execution of various projects and services in I&C.
  • To execute and provide support for all instrumentation & control maintenance activity.
  • To provide support for coordinating with the operations and other maintenance section for smooth running and maintenance of the plant.
  • Troubleshooting and rectification of faults as assigned
  • Assign maintenance parties as per the requirement of daily jobs
  • Recording of maintenance history of equipment
  • To arrange requisition/local purchase for workshop spare parts and material and to ensure that stocks are held at an economic level.
  • To verify the / inspect the materials delivered and submit report to AM / DM (I&C) against purchase orders issued for the I&C section.
  • To provide round the clock shift support for plant operations as instructed by Manager (I&C) whenever deemed necessary.
  • Attain Competent Person authorization within one month of deputation to the department for receiving work permits for I&C maintenance.
  • To make procedures for and ensure good housekeeping in order to have clean work place and proper wastage disposal.
  • To maintain records of Attendance, Leave and Overtime of Staff.
  • Any task assigned by the Head of Department pertaining to the functions of the Department.
  • Attend skill development and departmental procedural trainings as assigned and identified through TNA.
  • Maintaining discipline by ensuring punctuality and observance of rules.
  • Developing, training, and imparting knowledge to new team members, particularly related to sectional procedures
  • Basic use of ERP software (SAP), up-keeping of SAP records, timely recording of activities and updates
  • To ensure observance of safety measures
  • Carries out maintenance of the plant (Instrument & Control) with the assistance of staff under the instructions of AM / DM – I&C
  • Minimize maintenance time
  • Obtain work permit for relevant jobs
  • Timely execution of jobs
  • Timely respond to Fault Notifications
  • Timely execution of Preventive Maintenance Schedule
  • Maintain workshop readiness and cleanliness
  • Ensure adherence to safety policies and requirements during execution of jobs
  • Training of new manpower and imparting knowledge relevant to departmental procedures and processes
  • Ensure full Compliance of K-Electric HSE system and procedures.
  • Attends all scheduled and assigned HSE training and meetings.
  • He/ She Shall participate in D level meeting twice in a month.
  • Must use the required PPEs/SPEs as per job requirement.
  • Ensure compliance of Safety cardinal rules.
  • Checks Condition of all tools and equipment before use. Ensures that all tools & equipment are safe for use.
  • Maintains a safe and healthful place to work.
  • Is alert to observe and correct, or report, unsafe practices, and conditions.
  • He/ She must report accident/Near miss immediately to his line manager as per guide line of PSM SOP (KE-CHSEQ-PSM-11(01) Incident reporting procedure. 
  • Performs work with adherence to issued permit.

Qualification/Experience:

  • DAE Electronics / Electrical / Instrumentation + 5 years of relevant professional experience or
  • B. Tech Electronics / Electrical / Instrumentation + 6 years of relevant professional experience
