Job Purpose:

The Deputy Manager LT Ops (AMI) shall be responsible for day‑to‑day execution, close supervision, and detailed performance monitoring of smart meter operations, maintenance activities, and rollout support. Working under the Manager AMI Ops, the incumbent will ensure strict adherence to AMI policies, SOPs, technical standards, and operational frameworks, while exercising granular control over field teams, vendors, system performance, and data integrity.

The role requires hands-on involvement, frequent checks, and continuous follow‑ups to ensure that smart meter assets consistently meet defined communication KPIs, quality benchmarks, and lifecycle compliance requirements.

 

Education & Experience:

  • BE / BSc (Electrical/ Electronics)
  • 1 - 5 years of relevant experience

 

Key Responsibilities:

1. Smart Meter Operations & Maintenance (O&M)

The Deputy Manager shall be directly responsible for executing and enforcing O&M activities for smart meters through structured supervision and close management of assigned teams.

  • Closely monitor daily, weekly, and monthly smart meter communication KPIs (availability, ping, success rate).
  • Conduct daily performance reviews of meter communication dashboards and exception reports.
  • Assign, track, and follow up on corrective actions for non‑communicating or intermittently communicating meters.
  • Conduct root cause analysis for communication failures.
  • Ensure timely escalation of unresolved issues to the Manager with documented analysis and evidence.
  • Enforce preventive maintenance schedules through regular checks and field validations.
  • Personally verify critical or recurring fault closures before marking tasks as complete.

 

2. Operational Support for AMI Rollouts & Projects

The Assistant Manager shall provide intensive operational oversight from site commissioning through successful rollout handover.

  • Validate commissioning checklists, field test results, and system registration before acceptance.
  • Track rollout progress at a granular site and meter level, ensuring no deviations from approved plans.
  • Ensure each project phase meets operational readiness criteria prior to success declaration.
  • Monitor post‑commissioning stabilization and ensure communication KPIs meet thresholds before final sign‑off.

 

3. Compliance with AMI Policies, SOPs, and Frameworks

The Deputy Manager shall act as a front‑line enforcer of policies and procedures.

  • Ensure strict adherence to AMI SOPs, asset lifecycle processes, and governance frameworks.
  • Conduct regular compliance audits on field activities, documentation, and system operations.
  • Identify SOP deviations immediately and initiate corrective actions with documented evidence.
  • Maintain enforcement logs for non‑compliance by teams or vendors.
  • Provide continuous clarification and guidance to operational staff on SOP interpretation and execution.

 

4. Management of Teams and Activities

This role requires close supervision and management to ensure operational discipline.

  • Allocate daily tasks to field staff with clear instructions and timelines.
  • Track task execution status through logs, dashboards, and direct follow‑ups.
  • Perform spot checks and surprise reviews of field activities and data submissions.
  • Ensure accurate and timely reporting from all subordinate resources.
  • Hold daily or weekly review meetings to track pending issues and enforce accountability.

 

5. Smart Meter Standards & Technical Documentation Support

Under the guidance of the Manager, the Deputy Manager shall support ownership and maintenance of technical assets documentation.

  • Assist in drafting, updating, and refining SOPs, work instructions, and technical specifications.
  • Ensure field teams strictly follow latest approved documents.
  • Maintain controlled repositories for O&M procedures, configuration guidelines, and technical notes.
  • Record lessons learned and propose procedural improvements based on operational feedback.

 

6. Reporting, Documentation & Communication

The Deputy Manager shall ensure accurate and detailed reporting for informed decision‑making.

  • Prepare daily operational summaries highlighting KPIs, failures, and corrective actions.
  • Maintain issue trackers clearly identifying ownership, root cause, and closure timelines.
  • Support the Manager by providing structured inputs for management reviews and steering committees.
  • Ensure documentation completeness for audits, compliance checks, and governance reviews.

 

7. Continuous Improvement & Risk Mitigation

  • Identify repetitive operational issues and propose practical corrective and preventive measures.
  • Support implementation of enhanced monitoring tools and automation where applicable.
  • Proactively flag operational, technical, or vendor‑related risks impacting meter performance.
  • Ensure operational readiness during peak load seasons, mass rollouts, or system upgrades.

 

8. Authority & Accountability

  • Authorized to assign tasks, demand corrective actions, and enforce timelines within assigned scope.
  • Accountable for operational accuracy, compliance discipline, and performance stability at execution level.
  • Functionally reports to Manager LT Ops (AMI)

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong technical understanding of electronics/electrical systems
  • Intermediate to Advance level proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint & Power BI
  • Ability to work under tight deadlines and handle pressure
  • Strong Stakeholder Management skills with experience of leading teams
  • Good problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Strong organizational and documentation abilities
