Job Purpose

 

To support the implementation and day-to-day operations of Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) management across assigned units or clusters, aligned with HSEQ policies and safety standards. This role ensures safe operational practices, hazard identification, and contributes to cultivating a strong safety culture.

 

Mandatory Education

 

DAE (Diploma of Associate Engineering) in a relevant discipline with supplementary HSE certifications may be considered (typical for entry-level HSE engineering roles).

 

Experience

 

Typically expected: 2 to 3 years of relevant experience in HSE roles, especially in utility, industrial, or energy sectors.

Based on Assistant Manager HSE role  which prefers 2–3 years of experience .

 

Desired Certifications

 

International certifications such as NEBOSH or IOSH (certifications noted as preferred for higher-level HSE roles) .

 

Additional training in OH&S Management Systems (e.g., ISO 45001), EMS (ISO 14001), Emergency Response, Risk Assessment, etc., would be advantageous.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

The responsibilities for an Assistant Engineer may include:

 

  1. Hazard Identification & Inspection

Perform routine inspections across facilities, grids, or field sites; identify potential safety hazards and ensure timely reporting to supervisors .

 

  1. Risk Assessment & Safety Monitoring

Participate in Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), risk evaluations, implementation of mitigation measures as needed.

 

  1. Safety Program Support

Assist with the development and execution of safety awareness campaigns, training sessions, drills, and safer work methodologies per HSEQ guidelines .

 

  1. Incident Reporting & Investigation

Record and report safety incidents or near misses, initiate necessary investigations, and track corrective actions.

 

  1. Compliance & Process Safety Management.

Support implementation of HSEQ and Process Safety Management (PSM) frameworks across business units .

 

  1. Coordination & Supervision

Coordinate with internal teams and contractors to ensure safe operations and adherence to company SOPs and safety protocols.

 

  1. Record-Keeping & Documentation

Maintain accurate HSE records, dashboards, audit logs, and documentation for compliance and internal/external audits.

 

  1. Emergency Preparedness

Assist in emergency response procedures, ensuring readiness and functionality of safety equipment (e.g., firefighting systems).
